The Bentley Home Theater

We all know that California has it own unique car culture. Here a person's automobile and their personality are often closely aligned. One homeowner loved their Bentley so much; they couldn't get enough of it and choose it as the theme for their dedicated Home Theater.

"The homeowner wanted a one-of-a-kind theater that was modern and contemporary," said Rob Hart, president of UV Ultimate. "The concept of the interior was inspired by his car, which is plush and luxurious."

To pull this off, Stitchcraft Interiors was brought in to provide interior design ideas to the homeowner. They were well suited for the task since the company's background began in the automotive industry. Their many contacts gave them an edge in getting the exclusive materials needed to complete the job to spec. "Of all the rooms I have designed and created, this is by far my favorite, " says Revo Reese, president of Stitchcraft Interiors.

In keeping with the styling cues of the Bentley interior, the design included diamond quilting, burlwood, suede, Birdseye maple columns with metal mesh and plastic diffusers, acoustical panels, and the highly recognizable Bentley emblem. The oversized emblems placed around the theater are backlit and serve as lighting sconces. The side metal columns are meant to represent an exhaust pipe, the felt acoustical panels represent a Bentley hood, and the grills actually come from the Bentley plant in England.

Some of the larger challenges during the construction was tearing out a bathroom and walk in closet that was originally in the rear of the room, which added an additional seven feet to the theater providing a wider and more open space. Several of the interior projects were extremely time intensive. For instance, the acoustical panels took hours to shape properly and fiberglass rings were needed to insert the grill since those sections had to be upholstered separately. Forty yards of cappuccino suede was glued to the panels and was carefully placed around all the intricate curves and concaves.

The light sconces turned out to be a job in itself. Made out of fiberglass, the emblems had to be chromed using a special process called vacuum metallization. The "B" emblem was made out of acrylic. Mounted in the walls were special lights that could be super bright, yet, wouldn't melt the acrylic.

While designed as a dedicated home theater on the lower level of their home, the homeowner also wanted the room to serve as their entertainment hub complete with a high intensity gaming experience, incorporating D-Box motion chairs. The front row is all Cineak theater chairs, whereas the second row is comprised of a D-Box loveseat with single D-Box chairs on either side. On the top row, another D-Box chair is sandwiched between two Cineak love seats. Since the chairs come from two different suppliers it was going to be impossible to match the leather colors, so the two-tone look were purposely built into the interior design. Moreover, it is obvious that each group of chairs has a different purpose. On all three levels, a person can comfortably stretch out without interfering with anyone else.

Thats pretty cool looking. Its great how some guys can look at a blank room and invision all this stuff. Very nice.

Why hasn't the guy gone for re-upholstering all the chairs in the Bentley diamond quilted leather? It seems like the obvious thing to finish the room off properly. A Bentley's seats should be considered a wonder of the world and replicated in this room

That is absolutely hideous. Its stupid enough to give your home theater a car manufacturer theme, but besides the giant bentley logo, there's nothing here that actually reminds me of a bently, which are really classy cars, unlike this theater. Sorry to be so harsh, but... yuck.

I think this room has a nice balance. If you over do a room the novelty is nice at first but then it becomes overbearing. The owner now has the ability to enhance the theme to whatever level they want. Nice job...

I heard of Stitchcraft many years ago from friends and read about the quality work they do from auto magazines. This type of custom home theater has become more and more popular. The client had this vision and Stitchcraft made it happen. This type of custom work is not for everyone...(YOU MUST THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX) Having a vision is only one part of the equation the other part is finding a company that will complete the quality work. The theater room looks great! The sound must be amazing! The seating looks very comfortable and the small details bring this room to the next level. I have personally experienced the quality work that Stitchcraft produces, and it's some of the best interior work I have seen. Great Job!

To Colin Robertson. I would think that a self-proclaimed spokesman for Bentley would spell it correctly both times. A theme oriented room doesn't necessarily need to be %100 accurate especially when you sconsider its a hteater and the lights are about to be dimmed.

Nice work... Stitchcraft does it right once again! I thought the cars they do were awesome, then they raise the bar. I spoke to Revo the owner of Stitchcraft a few months ago and he had some great ideas when it came to my 2008 Mustang. Now I'm really looking forward to having my Mustang interior completed. The owner of this home theater must be very happy! Cheers!

Nice interior design, great concept. But when the lights are down, the picture and sound are all that matters to me. For my home theater, if I could afford a "Bentley" interior, my money would go to the electronics, and the design will be good enough, with "ear" towards could acoustic treatment. All that fine furniture and custom walls, and the sound is driven by a $2,000.00 receiver? To me, all flash, no substance. Meh.

@Jerry: "self proclaimed spokesmen for bentley"?! I have no idea what you're talking about. All I am saying, is that from a design perspective, this theater is incredibly tacky, unlike the cars; it has nothing to do with accuracy. In any case, I find it cheesy to do a theme theater based on any car... Even taking away the car theme, the finishes and furniture just clashes in a really bad way. For example, why is there two totally different chair types? Is that leopard print carpet? And seriously, yellow walls in a theater is just an awful idea. To top it off, the lighting isn't doing the room any favors... If you cant see these things, then you really don't have any business commenting on how cool a room looks.

Not sure what the last 12 or so posts are for, but if you want to comment about the creative quality interior designs that Stitchcraft Interior Designs does, we would like to read about it, but if you are just selling handbags or watches, or laser software... go someplace else. these are for comments that should pertain to the theater room only. Also we only know how to read english - Go Figure! Revo

The Stitchcraft aspect of the room is great. THe unmatched chairs, black and blue ceiling, and leopard print carpet are all hideous and visually distracting from an otherwise nice setup. Nothing a repaint and carpet change cannot salvage.

Love this room. Curious about the room dimensions?

We've been apart of many home theater interior builds since this project, none with the same amount of custom fabrication where molds were made to make parts and with the idea of a theme room theater. It is however time to see some new ideas incorporated into these rooms where the clients, family and their friends will spend so much time...
